Walking Expedition

Activities: Walking, Photography, Safari, and Wildlife Viewing.
Location(s): Great Rift Valley and Maasai Mara
Duration: 6 days.

Breakfast and then we leave Nairobi for Naivasha our base for the next three days. We will hike to the top of the crater where we’ll be able to see the lake from various angles. The sanctuary is home to Giraffes, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Aardvarks, Leopards and a range of Gazelles. Lunch at Elsamere followed by a walk in the afternoon around the Crater Lake sanctuary to be back before it gets dark. Overnight at Elsamere Conservation Center.

Breakfast followed by a transfer to the Hell’s gate National Park. Hell’s gate is a unique park where walking is done in the middle of wildlife – giraffes, zebras, warthogs name it. We’ll have a picnic lunch at the wonderful gorge. After lunch we’ll walk down the Hell’s Gate Gorge by descending into a steep canyon with running water from geysers and wild vegetation. The climax of the day is in walking in the Side Gorge where the rocks have split to leave only a walking path. We climb back followed by a transfer back to our wonderful camp through Olkaria geo-thermal plant. Overnight at Elsamere Conservation Center.

An early start of the day. Early breakfast and then we head for Mt. Longonot – an extinct crater in the Great Rift Valley. A hike to the rim of the crater should reveal an array of wildlife as well as amazing birds, which are found here in a wide variety.

We shall have a picnic lunch at scenic point at the rim of the crater – the highest point on the rim. We go round the rim and descend to the park gate and then head back to our lodge. Overnight at Elsamere Conservation Center.

In many respects the Mara is the most spectacular part of the trip, with long views over flat-topped acacias and glassy plains with abundance of animals. We’ll arrive at our camp just in time for lunch. In the mid-afternoon we venture out to the expansive game reserve for a game viewing drive in search of the big five and the large concentration of game animals such as zebras and wildebeests. Overnight at Mara Sarova Tented Camp.

We’ll spend the whole day at the famous Maasai Mara and gain a clearer appreciation of this extensive reserve with its abundance of mammals, birds and enjoying its landscape. Overnight at Mara Sarova Tented Camp.

After breakfast you will drive back to Nairobi. On our eventful arrival back at Nairobi, we will refresh up at the Country Lodge in Nairobi and have a last meal together at the famous Carnivore restaurant, before making our way to the airport for our outbound flight back home.
